Career Advancement Award
The Society also co-presents a chamber music series in partnership with the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society. Additionally, the Society awards each year a Career Advancement Award to an especially promising young artist with local ties and a Lifetime Achievement Award to a local artist or composer who has had an extraordinary impact on the musical life of Philadelphia and the field at large.
The Musical Fund Society’s annual Career Advancement Award is one of the many ways in which MFS invests in the musical life of Philadelphia. Since 1987, this award has recognized a musician under the age of 40 who has had a meaningful connection to Philadelphia during the time he or she was developing as an artist, and whose emerging career demonstrates a high level of artistry, promise and versatility.
Many recipients have gone on to internationally acclaimed careers, including such outstanding artists as Eric Owens, Soovin Kim, Marc-André Hamelin, Marietta Simpson, and Natalie Zhu. The winner of the award receives a cash prize and is featured in a solo recital presented under the auspices of the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society.
